The Wonders of Creation (2017)
Garaibü'l-mevcüdat
Installation
Cloth, luminescent paint

The installation titled “The Wonders of Creation” (2017) is dominated by jinn. The jinn painted on the tulle with fluorescent colors radiate in the dark setting; the hell thus formed invites us to coexist with the spirits we refer to as jinn, and urges us to revisit our conception of hell. In the intermittently illuminated areas of the space, the viewer realizes that the jinn are merely drawings on the tulle; in recognizing the construct behind the design the viewer thus considers the possibility that all our beliefs may be nothing more than an illusion, and that we ourselves may very well be the ultimate creators of hell.

“Garâibü’l-mevcûdât” (2017) adlı yerleştirmede sahneyi cinler kaplar. Tül üzerine floresan boyalarla çizilmiş cinlerin karanlık mekâna yerleştirilmesiyle kurulan bu cehennem, bizi cin dediklerimizle birarada bulunmaya ve cehennem tahayyülümüzü gözden geçirmeye davet eder. Mekânın periyodik aydınlanma anlarında, karanlıkta parlayan cinlerin aslında tüllerin üzerine çizilmiş olduğunu anlayan izleyici, bir yandan yapıtı oluşturan mekanizmaya tanık olurken, bir yandan da inançlarımızın birer yanılsama olabileceği, cehennemi yaratanların da nihayetinde bizler olduğumuz fikri ile yüzleşir.

CANAN’s exhibition “Behind Mount Qaf” was documented in 3D by oddviz, an Istanbul-based collective, employing photogrammetric method.

To create the 3D model of the exhibition, members of oddviz, Çağrı Taşkın, Serkan Kaptan and Erdal İnci visited the space weekly and took thousands of photographs. They later processed the images by stitching them together within their specific spatial coordinates.

All three floors of the exhibition can be visited through the mouse-clicks of your computer. You can take your digital exhibition tour through Virtual Reality headsets or full-screen mode on your PC.
